Meet with our team to discuss your negotiation strategy to reach a solution that helps you to move on after ending your marriage.

Connecticut Law Dictates The Division Of Wealth In Divorce

If you and your spouse have decided that the next step in your relationship is to end your marriage, it is important to speak to a local attorney that specializes in divorce. With these discussions, you can learn more about the process in order to try to make the decisions that are right for you and your family. Eventually, one key element of your divorce must be addressed: separating your shared wealth.

Here in Connecticut, the law stipulates that you and your former partner must share things “equitably,” which leaves you two a little bit of room to negotiate. This term does not necessarily mean “equal,” but your judge will take into account the reasonableness of your agreement.

A Talented Negotiation Strategy Can Help You Find Resolution

During your divorce, there will come a time when you and your former partner need to talk about money. At these meetings, you do not want to find yourself alone at one end of the negotiating table. Even if you and your spouse have come to a collective decision regarding your divorce, you still need to be prepared. In the state of Connecticut, all of your wealth is shared with your spouse, so everything that you own is on the table during these negotiations.
